Internet Sex Crimes Defense
Since the birth of the Internet in the mid 1990s Americans are consuming huge amounts of pornography at younger and younger ages. In our practice minor clients report watching online pornography since elementary school. Our entire online world is just a few clicks away from extremely graphic and often disturbing materials. This has had a major impact on our society and on our relationships. And it has led many people down the road to finding themselves charged with an Internet Sex Crime. At the Meryhew Law Group we work with those people every day with a great deal of success for our clients.
One of the ways the Internet induces people to escalate their sexual behavior online is the idea that these interactions are anonymous. Or that you can control how much others online know about you or can find out about you. Of course, the reality is that almost everything a person does online can be tracked. Every image a person sends through the internet may be checked to see if it is a child sexual abuse image (child pornography). Every chat room or encrypted text message conversation could be with a law enforcement officer, or a minor, and a person has no way of knowing this.
The truth is it is impossible to know who you are communicating with online, no matter where you meet them or encounter them online. Everything is opaque, and yet everything you do can be revealed to the authorities. If you have made poor decisions while using the Internet, there are a lot of ways to get in trouble. At the Meryhew Law Group we have been helping people with these cases since the 1990s and we have extensive experience and expertise with these sometimes very complicated cases.
